Tanpa disadari seseorang akan terlihat lebih langsing saat pagi hari. Kenapa bisa begitu? Studi menunjukkan bahwa seseorang tidak hanya terlihat lebih langsing di pagi hari, tapi ia benar-benar mengalami penurunan berat badan. Hal ini karena saat tidur tubuh tetap membakar kalori. Saat tidur tubuh akan memproses makanan dan minuman yang dikonsumsi sebelum ia tidur. Makanan dan minuman ini akan dimetabolisme dalam tubuh menjadi bagian yang lebih kecil dan dikeluarkan melalui pernapasan, keringat atau buang air kecil di malam hari. Selain itu tidur juga meningkatkan proses metabolisme di dalam tubuh yang membuat nilai IMT (Indeks Massa Tubuh) menurun. Nilai IMT yang terlalu besar bisa menjadi faktor risiko dari suatu penyakit. Dr Margaret Polaneczky menuturkan sekitar 80 persen penurunan berat badan yang terjadi selama orang tidur berasal dari pengurangan jumlah air yang ada di dalam tubuh, seperti dikutip dari Livestrong, Selasa (26/7/2011). Seberapa banyak berat badan yang hilang di malam hari berkaitan dengan jumlah waktu yang dihabiskan dalam tidur gelombang pendek (short wave sleep). Tidur juga memberikan kesempatan bagi tubuh untuk menyeimbangkan dirinya sendiri termasuk memproses dan menghilangkan air yang tertahan (retensi air) terutama jika seseorang terlalu banyak mengonsumsi makanan asin. Saat pagi hari juga diyakini dapat membuat seseorang terlihat lebih tinggi sehingga berkontribusi terhadap penampilan seseorang yang menjadi lebih ramping.  |
